Conservative Dental Bridges
If you have lost one or more consecutive teeth, a dental bridge can fill the gap in your smile and restore your oral function. Dr. Joseph P. Fusco provides dental bridges that involve minimal modification of the healthy teeth and less discomfort than standard treatment methods. As a result, our patients enjoy stronger and healthier smiles that are as aesthetic as ever. With as few as two visits to our Long Island, NY, dental office, patients can once again have a full smile with significantly improved oral health.
Purpose of a Dental Bridge
Dental bridges fill small gaps of missing teeth with pontics, or artificial teeth, which are supported on either end by dental crowns. When a traditional bridge is used, the healthy teeth on either side of the gap support the dental crowns. An implant-supported bridge, on the other hand, does not affect the remaining teeth in any way, as the crowns are supported by dental implants.
Benefits of Filling Gaps of Missing Teeth
Gaps in your smile can affect more than just your appearance. Missing teeth make it harder to eat and speak properly. Over time, this can lead to misalignment in your bite and jaw. That empty space also encourages your remaining teeth to shift out of position to fill the gap.
Placing a bridge can prevent all of these risks. You can enjoy renewed dental function, speaking and eating with ease and comfort once again. It also ensures your remaining teeth stay in position and keeps your jaw in proper alignment. An implant-supported bridge offers the additional benefit of preserving your jawbone, sending regenerative signals that prevent bone loss.
Receiving a Dental Bridge from a Biomimetic Dentist
As a biomimetic dentist, Dr. Fusco’s primary goal is to preserve as much of your healthy dental tissues as possible, providing lifelike results. He uses specialized techniques that allow him to perform the most conservative restorative treatments. If it is determined that a traditional bridge is the best course of action for your unique needs, Dr. Fusco can begin the treatment process by altering the shape of surrounding teeth. While traditional techniques require significant alteration of the teeth that will support the crowns, Dr. Fusco’s approach involves minimal preparation. His conservative techniques can also further ensure your comfort during the treatment.
Once the reshaping process is complete, we will take impressions. We will send these to a lab where an expert technician will craft your completely custom bridge. Using contemporary, biocompatible materials like porcelain and zirconia allows for the thinnest and strongest restorations possible. About two weeks later, you will return for the placement of your aesthetic, custom dental bridge. After he ensures the restoration meets his specifications, Dr. Fusco will double check your bite to make sure it does not cause any discomfort or misalignment. When you are both satisfied, he can secure your restoration in place, allowing you to leave with your beautiful smile.
Dr. Fusco can provide the precise, caring treatment you need to preserve your oral structure and strength for years to come.
If you are receiving implant-supported restorations, you will first need to undergo dental implant placement. About three to six months after your implants have been placed and your jaw has fused with the implant posts, you can receive your restoration. Dr. Fusco will use the same, conservative techniques to help ensure the best possible treatment experience.
